Minneapolis, Minnesota is home to the National Football League’s Minnesota Vikings football team. The NFL Minnesota Vikings were founded in 1961 and played at Metropolitan Stadium through the 1981 NFL season. Since 1982, the Minnesota Vikings have played at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome Minneapolis, which is also where the MLB Minnesota Twins play.
The Minnesota Vikings defense of the 1960’s-70 was called the Purple People Eaters, which included Minnesota Vikings players Alan Page, Gary Larsen and Jim Marshall. The Purple People Eaters helped advance the Minnesota Vikings to ten Division Championships in these two decades. Minnesota Vikings Tickets were a hot commodity during the Purple People Eater years.
In the 1998 season Minnesota Vikings football fans had lots to cheer about with a 15-1 season. This Minnesota Vikings record was created with the help of Minnesota Vikings new power team including running back Robert Smith, wide receiver Cris Carter and Vikings rookie Randy Moss. Unfortunately, Vikings kicker Gary Anderson missed his first field goal of the whole 1998 season during the Minnesota Vikings playoffs game versus the Atlanta Falcons, which ended Minnesota Vikings players and fans hopes of a Super Bowl that year.
The Minnesota Vikings have had ups and downs in the 2000’s. The Vikings roster has included great players such as Daunte Culpepper, Matt Birk, Pat Williams, Darren Sharper, Chad Greenway and Adrian Peterson. Even with a strong Vikings roster, the Minnesota Vikings schedule is often full of tough games and the Vikings have yet to win Super Bowl Championship. As part of the NFC North Division, the Minnesota Vikings have developed intense rivalries with the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears as well as other tough teams in the league.
The Minnesota Vikings have a Fight Song called “Skol, Vikings” that is as old as the Minnesota Vikings team. Skol, Vikings is played whenever the team scores, during half time and at the end of the game. The word “skol” is Swedish for “a salute or toast, as to an admired person or group.” Minnesota Vikings fans love to sing the song and it’s a cherished Minnesota Vikings tradition.
The Minnesota Vikings may not have won a Super Bowl Championship yet, but buy your Minnesota Vikings tickets now, because this could be the year they win it all! Skol Vikings!
