The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, popularly shortened to The Metrodome, or even “The Dome” is a dome roofed sports stadium in the heart of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Dome is home to the NFL Minnesota Vikings football team, and the MLB Minnesota Twins baseball team. You can buy both Minnesota Vikings tickets and Minnesota Twins tickets today on our website! Check the Metrodome schedule for game listings and for other Metrodome Minneapolis ticket sales.
The HHH Metrodome opened in 1982 and replaced a few other stadiums including the Metropolitan Stadium that was located on what is now the Mall of America, as well as the Memorial Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus. The HHH Metrodome is named after Hubert Humphrey, once a mayor of Minneapolis and became a U.S. Senator and U.S. Vice President, who died in 1978.The Metrodome Minneapolis cost around $68 million to build, which was about $2 million under the amount allotted for the project.
The Dome has a few features that are an advantage to the Minnesota Twins baseball team such as the Dome ceiling being almost the same color as a baseball. Whereas outdoor fields might make a ball be lost by the sun shining in a player’s eyes, the Metrodome ceiling may make a fielder lose the ball in the ceiling. In the past, the left field wall had a Plexiglas screen in front of it. In Game 6 of the 1991 World Series, beloved Twins player Kirby Puckett jumped up and caught a ball hit by Ron Gant that may have been a home run without the screen. This screen was taken down in the mid-1990s. The “Baggie” or “Hefty Bag” is in the right field, covering up the seats not used for baseball that would be used for the Minnesota Vikings games. The Baggie makes the right field wall 16 feet higher than the rest of the field wall. The Minnesota Twins have won two World Series championships in the HHH Metrodome. The HHH Metrodome is located at 900 South 5th Street in downtown Minneapolis. The Metrodome seating chart includes seats for 46,564 Twins baseball fans, 64,111 Vikings or Gophers football fans and 50,000 basketball fans when the Dome is used for NCAA Basketball Tournaments.
